5 reasons to adopt instead of shop

We spent an amazing week around a lot of dogs with the rescue organisation ASAP situated around Granada Spain. These wonderful dogs and pups are looking for a forever home. But why should you adopt instead of shop?
1. You are saving lives, more than one!
the first life you save is from the dog/puppy you are giving a forever home. You will change a home-less animal whole world and get a new best friend out of the deal. This is a win-win for both! The second one is because you are making room for a new dog to be fostered by the adoption service. Third is the life of the organisation, a small amount of the money you pay for adoption is been used to cover general vet costs, including vaccinations and so much more! This helps to better the lives of all the foster dogs and keeps the organisation running. Last but not least is your own life, adopting will make your heart happy!
2. You are fighting puppy mills!
A puppy mill or puppy farm is a commercial dog breeding facility. This means that a puppy mill is a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation where profit is given priority over the well-being of the dogs. The pups are usually suffering from health and social problems and the moms are not taken care of properly. The prices are high and the conditions are poor. No animal should be treated like this! By adopting a dog/pup instead of buying you are fighting this huge problem!
3. Adopting is cheaper then buying
Buying a dog from a pet shop or breeder can be rather expensive. Adopting is not free, but there is a lot included in the price! Every dog is vet checked, micro-chipped, vaccinated, neutered, disease checked and has a passport. In the end of the equation adopting is almost always cheaper.
4. Yes, there are puppies!
A huge misconception about rescue dogs is that there are only grown up dogs. The organisation that we visited had 54 dogs in foster and 29 of them are puppies! After their vaccinations are in order they are ready to fly (usually when they are 16 weeks old). On the cover picture of this blog are Dani and Dina, two pups who were found only one day old, hand fed and nurtured and now healthy and adorable!
We had an amazing time visiting ASAP in Spain cuddling these sweethearts!
5. Because ASAP makes it easy
Visit the website or Facebook page to see a whole list and picture of dogs ready for adoption. You can interact with the friendly people of the organisation to find the perfect match for you! The great care will not end with your new best friend getting on a flight to you, there is a whole team ready to answer calls and questions. This is usually provided by stichting hondenzorg en welzijn.
